Where did you grow up?
I was born in the Philippines but grew up in Houston, Texas.
What high school did you attend?
I attended a small high school named Eastwood Academy in Houston.
What was your favorite extracurricular activity in high school?
When I was younger I spent most of my after-school time helping my mother tutor her algebra students. She taught math at the high school I attended and I would usually help out whenever she needed it.
Why did you come to UT?
I came to The University of Texas at Austin for a variety of reasons. It is far enough from home to allow me to experience college life and close enough to be convenient. The CS program is elite and I have had friends who attended that gave good reviews.
Why are you majoring in CS?
In high school, AP Computer Science was the class I enjoyed the most and I decided to pursue it.
Why are you in this class?
I am in this class because I need upper-division CS courses to graduate. I also took Software Engineering last semester and enjoyed my time under Professor Downing.
What are your expectations of this class?
I am expecting it to be very similar to Software Engineering last semester. While I don’t think we will be building a website, I expect the course load of each project to be similar and for lectures to be engaging.
How much C++ do you already know?
While it isn’t Java, I am confident in my ability to program in C++ as the course requires.
How did you like the two lectures?
The lectures were what I expected after taking the class last semester. Professor Downing has great energy and is very thorough with his explanations.
How did you feel about the cold calling?
I do not mind the cold calling system that Professor Downing uses. I was skeptical last semester but it honestly was not too bad once I experienced it for myself.
