What did you do this past week?

This past week, I spent a majority of my time studying for a Database Management exam I had on Thursday. Besides that, I did not do much outside of the usual schedule of classes. I did try to make sense of the Life project by myself, but I could not make sense of it until Professor Downing made his lecture during class on Friday.

What’s in your way?

I do not have much in the way as of right now, but the distraction of the upcoming Thanksgiving break is starting to creep in a bit. It isn’t anything that I can’t handle, but I still need to make sure that it does not get the better of me.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I do not believe I have anything immediately required, so I expect a lot of my time to be dedicated to figuring out the Life Project. I probably won’t finish it up in that time, but I expect that designing the structure of the code might take anywhere from half a week to the entire week. I completely believe that once the design is finished, implementing the actual code is trivial and can be done quickly, so I will not panic if the design takes up the majority of my time.

If you read it, what did you think of The New Methodology?

The New Methodology was a good read. I did not find as much value in it as I did in the articles from 1996. The contents of the article weren’t anything I hadn’t heard before, but I imagine that it would be useful to people who had not heard of it before.

What was your experience of containers, container adapters, and Life?

I enjoyed the lectures this week on containers. It reminded me of my time in Data Structures and I really enjoyed that class. I don’t think that the classes themselves taught me anything I did not already know, but they were useful for refreshing my memory on the things I learned in Data Structures.

What made you happy this week?

This weekend, I enjoyed spending time with some friends I have not met in some time. Between the pandemic and the start of school, we had not been able to find time until Friday and Saturday. It was nice to see that they were doing well, even if we were limited to only playing video games over Discord.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

If you aren’t the biggest fan of terminal only SSH, I really recommend that you check on WinSCP on a Windows Computer. It allows for SSH with a graphical interface that can be useful if you prefer that.
